Woman Loses Sponsorship After Video of Husband Spearing Bear Goes Viral

Sarah Bowmar filmed her husband, Josh, hunting a bear in Canada with a spear and shared it.

The video caused outrage and the couple was investigated by Canadian authorities, who concluded that they did not break any law, but Sarah’s sponsor did not like the negative attention:

There still have been repercussions for Bowmar and his wife, Sarah, who shot the video and who, like her husband, is a fitness and hunting enthusiast based in Columbus. Last week she lost a sponsorship from clothing giant Under Armour.

The company, which has heavily courted hunters, posted on Facebook: “The method used to harvest this animal was reckless and we do not condone it. We…support hunting that is conducted in compliance with all regulatory laws.”

The incident has prompted officials in Alberta to announce that they would introduce legislation in fall to ban spear hunting.
